February 2012

From the Principal:

Dear Acadian Parents:

It is that time again for Pre K and Kindergarten registration.  If your child is already enrolled in Pre K you do not have to register as a Kindergartner.  If you need to register a child for Pre K or K, you must bring a birth certificate, immunization record, social security card, and proof of domicile address.   Registration dates are:  Feb. 8th and 9th for Kindergarten; Feb. 15th and 16th for Pre Kindergarten.  Please share this information with any one in Acadian’s school district.

State testing is quickly approaching.  There are 26 school days until Phase 1 (March 20th) for 4th grade writing and constructed math responses and 38 school days until LEAP (4th), iLEAP (3rd), and ITBS (2nd).  This week (Jan. 30 – Feb. 3rd) 2nd graders will be taking their Performance Testing.  LEAP and iLEAP ELA test practice booklets went home and are due on Feb. 14th.  This is an excellent way for you and your child to prepare for LEAP and iLEAP testing.  The math booklet will be sent home after the Mardi Gras break.

Acadian continues to celebrate our students’ accomplishments with monthly events:  Student of the Month party; 100% Homework Dress Down Shirt day; A/B Conduct Dress Down Day; 100% Monthly Attendance Dress Down Day; Accelerated Reader and Math recognition; and Caught Being Good and Target Ticket Drawings. We are so proud of our students and their hard work!!!

As always, please contact the school if you have any questions.  Have a wonderful month!

Your partner in education,

Myra M. Austin

In the Classrooms:

Pre-K: Our themes during the month of February include: Farm (2 Weeks), Louisiana Culture, Music and Stories, and Louisiana Food and Agriculture. During the month of February we will focus on the number 7, the color pink, and the heart shape. We will learn the letters S, T, U, and V throughout the month. Parents, please don’t forget to check your child’s folder daily because we have some fun activities coming up!

2nd:  Mrs. Pitre’s class became news reporters for a day. They wrote a story using the Who, What Where When Why and How of newspaper writing.

Computer Lab: February Goals for 3rd grade: Reading 4.0 and Math 3.4 and 4th Grade Reading 4.8 and Math 4.4. Are you pushing yourself to 212°? Mrs. Austin has visited all 3rd and 4th grade classes and discussed Acadian’s incentives for doing your best on the TEST! Who will go on a limo ride???

LEAP Practice:

**Remember, practice makes perfect! Your personal goal should be to score at least a Basic so you can pass the test. So in order to help you out in reaching your goal, you need to work this short time frame in your LEAP practice books (ELA & MATH as scheduled) both at home & at school.  Remember, YOU CAN BE A WINNER and race to the top to BEAT THE LEAP TEST!
