The program used in the Computer Lab is called Success Maker Enterprise produced by Pearson.  This program tutors students in Math, Reading, Writing and Spelling.  The initial placement module assesses students and their current levels before starting lessons.  Each day students will work on a teacher selected subject in Success Maker for 25 minutes.  The remainder of their lab time consists of learning about technology such as: creating PowerPoint presentations, using Excel spreadsheets, creating tables and brochures in Microsoft Word, creating thinking maps using Kidspiration and Inspiration software, and searching on the Internet.

Use of the computer lab at recess will be limited to the snack recess only due to the shortness of the morning recess.    Any student with an assignment to work on, such as Accelerated Reading or research, can use the Work Zone computers during snack recess if they have their work with them.   Occasionally, the lab closes at recesses.

 Guidelines for Computer Use:

1. Before anyone can use a computer at school, a "Computer and Internet Use" contract must be signed and filed.

2.Students should be carefully monitored by an adult at all times when using computers at school.

3.  All computer use at school by students shall be limited to class assignments or school-related projects.

4. Food, drinks, or candy should not be consumed near any computers.

5. USB flash drives may be only used with prior permission by a teacher.  If work is saved, it should be saved on the flash drive, instead of the hard drive.  If flash drives are brought from home, they should be scanned for viruses before using them.

6.  When copying from the Internet, select (or highlight) what you wish to print and only print materials relevant to your research by choosing the Print Selection item on the printer window.  (This will save time, ink, as well as paper.)  Another method is to select (or highlight) the material you need, then copy it and paste it into a Microsoft Word document.

7.  Always use "Print Preview" before sending a document to the printer.  This way you'll know if everything will appear on the page that you are sending to the printer.
