POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT (PBS)

Terrebonne High School will actively promote a positive behavior support program with the following objectives:

  • Promote an ideal school learning environment.
  • Promote an ideal academic culture.
  • Improve attendance.
  • Improve GEE scores.
  • Improve School Performance Scores.

As part of our effort to achieve these goals, THS will implement a student reward system, effective as of January 4, 2010. Students who do not receive office referrals and have perfect attendance will be rewarded every two weeks. There will be dress down days, classroom rewards and students who meet the requirements will be entered in raffles.

Student Reward System

Students rewarded every two weeks (no referrals and perfect attendance):

  • Dress down- Acceptable blue jeans [pants only]: with no holes or tears, must fit properly, and belt must be worn. Student may also wear uniform pants. Pants must be worn properly at all times. Dress down shirt: Current School Year Spirit Shirt, Current School Year Club Shirt, or uniform shirt. All shirts must be tucked in.
  • Students with no referrals and perfect attendance for the semester will receive an award and recognition.

THS PRIDE: Personal Responsibility in Daily Effort

THS PRIDE! At THS we believe in PRIDE: Personal Responsibility in Daily Effort. Everyone at THS, administrators, staff, and students is encouraged to focus on PRIDE, because we can make it more than a word: it can become one of our predominant attitudes!

Moving from a written statement to a pervasive attitude takes some careful planning and action. We were excited. We have decided to make it our attitude with the purpose of achieving academic excellence. PRIDE at THS is driven by the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) Committee which works toward creating an ideal learning environment at THS.

You get from human beings what you reward

The PBIS Committee has the responsibility of setting up an awards and rewards system for our students that emphasized the four areas on which we wanted to focus:

1.      Appropriate academic responsibility/ success

2.      Student attendance

3.      Student conduct

4.      Effort

Scheduling: [Scheduling Guide]

Scheduling is done at the beginning of the spring term for the following year. Forms must be signed by a parent/guardian at that time.
Schedules are mailed out about 3 weeks prior to the start of school in the fall. If there is an error, the guidance office should be consulted so that it can be rectified before the start of classes.

Interventions for improving grades

1. Contact your teacher for specific suggestions for improvement and help available.
2. Be in class on time and well-prepared each day. Participate with full attention in class activities.
3. Keep an assignment book or planner to organize short-term and long-term projects. Break large projects into smaller chunks.
4. Block off routine, quiet study time at home.
5. Review notes and texts periodically. Do not wait until the night before a test. Plan ahead for finals.
6. Establish study groups with peers.
7. Review sound test-taking techniques. Ask your teacher how to best study for his/her subject area.
8. Reevaluate your priorities when activities or employment outside of school jeopardize your academic success.
9. Use school resources available to you.

How to get help at school:
   Teachers
      • Talk to your teacher about specific suggestions for improvement.
      • Ask your teacher about help sessions that he/she offers his/her students.
   Peer Tutoring
      • Honor Society, Foreign Language Club, Beta Club, and Key Club offer peer-tutoring to students on Tuesdays, and Thursdays during the second half of lunch.
   School Counselors
      • Contact the Guidance Office for a recommendation of outside tutors.
      • Make an appointment with your school counselor for further recommendations.
   Grade Level Principal
      • Contact your grade level principal to be matched with a faculty mentor.
      • Contact your grade level principal for further assistance.
   Other resources: Library
      • The library contains 15 computers for student use.
      • The Library holds books, videos, and periodicals.
      • The Library is open Monday through Friday from 7:00a.m.-2:20 p.m.

Alma Mater
The praises of Terrebonne High School sing.
   Our voices raise on high.
Her glorious name to the breezes fling,
   'Til echoes rend the sky.
For noble deeds, for honor bright,
   For truth's unbroken sway.
For victories won in virtue's fight,
   We herald her fame today.
It is known that the Terrebonne High School Alma Mater dates back to at least 1913. After a period of approximately twenty-five years when it wasn't sung, the class of 1943 was vital in restoring the Alma Mater to its rightful place in the school. At that time only the words were available. Since the music was lost, Hal M. Gilder, the music teacher, wrote the present arrangement of this song with the assistance of the Honorable J. Louis Watkins, a student in 1913 who remembered the original melody.  The text of the full alma mater can be found on the history page.

Fight Song

Oh, when the Terrebonne Tigers fall in line,
We're gonna win that game another time.
For THS I yell, I yell, I yell,
And for the football team I yell, I yell, I yell.
We're gonna fight, fight, fight, for every yard,
We're gonna hit that line and hit it hard,
We're gonna roll those. . . . . . on the side, on the side,
   Terrebonne High.

EQUAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

It shall be the policy of the School Board that the school district shall place an equal emphasis upon the nondiscriminatory provision of educational opportunities for children and no person shall be excluded from participation in or denied the benefits of any education service, program, or activity on the basis of race, color, disability, religion, creed, national origin, age, or sex. All programs offered by schools within the school district shall be open to all students in compliance with statutory and judicial requirements.

The Superintendent shall designate a member of the staff to investigate any and all complaints which may be brought against the district in regard to any alleged discriminatory action. Adequate procedures shall be developed and maintained to provide for prompt and equitable resolution of student complaints.

TPSB TRUANT POLICY REVISIONS

The Truancy Policy was revised on November 2008 to include Tardy.  Tardy, for the purpose of notification, shall include, but not be limited to being late to school, or leaving or checking out of school unexcused prior to the regularly scheduled dismissal time at the end of the school day.  However, it shall not include reporting late to class when transferring from one class to another during the school day.

This change in policy will begin to be implemented on Monday, November 30th. If a student checks out, starting Monday, November 30th unexcused prior to dismissal, he/she is tardy unexcused.
